ABOUT THE CLASS

Instructor: Svitlana Melnyk, a native speaker of Ukrainian, received her PhD in Philology from the Kyiv National Taras Shevchenko University in 1996 in Kyiv, Ukraine. Svitlana specializes in sociolinguistics and bilingualism, and she has published a number of articles examining linguistic minorities and the intersection between bilingualism and State policies in Ukraine. She is currently a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Slavik and East-European Languages and Cultures at Indiana University.

Teaching Assistant: Iryna Stryapunina is Svitlana's daughter and a PhD student at Harvard studying virology. She will be helping with organization of the class.

Following the unprovoked war waged by Russia against Ukraine Svitlana decided to teach a free beginner Ukrainian course to anyone who is interested. The class will be held over Zoom 1-2PM (EST) on Saturdays March 12th - May 7th. Please email stryapunina@g.harvard.edu to receive the Zoom link.
